Appearance: Az is 5 foot 3 with blue hair, and Red eyes. She normally wears her hair tied up and dresses in hunters green and brown leathers.
Az also has a dragon form that she almost never uses.
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Personality: Az can come off as cold to new people this is because she cautious about how she interacts with others. Being a dragon raised by dragon hunters she's been taught to hate and fear her own kind. Thinking of them as only one step up from monsters. Because of this she's afraid of herself, she tries to keep her emotions under control and gets upset at herself if she fails. She also doesn't indulge in her feminine side since most of the dragon hunters are male and mocked her for liking “Girly” things when training to be a Dragon slayer. Earning her peer's respect had been hard, and she's proud of the skills she's learned. But now she's learned that the Dragons aren't the monsters she'd been taught she trusts herself even less.
Having had Furguson as parent and her sole source of food and comfort she is exceptionally loyal to him and, seeing him as a better person than herself, would willingly risk her life for him. She also grew up with the pain haunting Ferguson from losing his human family to Ravus. Seeing other's suffering reminds her of her father and she'll often try to help. Having now lost her father, and confused about who and what she is, she'd cling to any new friends she'd make. Like Saft who she's planning to take back to Dragonsbayne for treatment after being hurt escaping from the Hunters even though she's an escaped criminal there.
Backstory:
The shadow of Ravus,Saft's father, spreads far. Another black dragon was mistaken for Ravus and killed in revenge for his actions. The dragon's killer, not yet as hardened as most dragon slayers found himself unable to slay a second much younger dragon found near by the dead black dragon.
This was Azureus, a mere infant. The hunter, Ferguson Drust adopted this baby dragon but as stories of other monsters spread he started hunting other monsters. He did try to keep the dragon away from danger but time passed and Azureus grew bigger. She wanted to help but Ferguson said she was still to young but after she interfered twice, once saving Ferguson from a giant spider, and once distracting a Necromancer he was asked to kill, he agreed if only so he could keep an eye on her.
Ferguson and Azureus eventually caught the eye of Alberto and his dragon hunters. They had heard tails of a monster slaying dragon and wanted to find out more. Alberto told them of more dragons burning down villages and they agreed to help. Alberto was impressed with a dragon that was willing to slay it's own kind to protect humans. When asked what she wanted in exchange for her help she said she didn't want anything in exchange, for all she wanted was to be human which was impossible.
Alberto agreed to let Ferguson and Azureus join them and even granted Azureus' seemingly impossible wish. She was of only so much use to them as a dragon, they couldn't let it become common knowledge that the Dragon Hunters had accepted a dragon's help. So they hired a mage to give Az a human form, through a silver collar to be worn around her neck. She took the human name Az Durst and was trained in the both swordsmanship and the use of a crossbow.
Earning the trust of the other hunters under Alberto's command was a hard task but Az rose to the challenge. Finally succeeding when she delt the final blow to a dragon they had cornered.
Unfortunately thanks to Saft's interference she was captured by the dragons of Dragonsbayne during a raid on a dragon's rookery and was sent to prison to await the dragon council's judgement.
Saft visited Az in prison. She knew what it was like to hate being a dragon was determined to win Az over and eventually she convinced Az to take her to the dragon hunters to negotiate a treaty in return for breaking her out of prison.
Az had her doubts but her options were limited and she agreed to the deal.
However the meeting with the Dragon Hunters did not go according to plan. Alberto called Az by her real name Azureus and the silver collar the girl wore around her neck glowed and her eyes went blank. Alberto then ordered her to cut her own throat if Saft refused to let herself be locked up. And to Saft's horror the blue haired girl reached for the knife on her belt.
Saft agreed to go to the cells and Az was ordered to follow. Ferguson asked for a moment alone with his daughter, to say goodbye. And although Alberto was unwilling he allowed it in an attempt to keep the man loyal.
Ferguson ordered Az closer to the cells so they could talk, he then told her exactly how the collar worked, ordered her to never obey a dragon hunter's order again, to live her life as she chose and finished by saying he loved her before called Az by her full name again, deactivating the control of the collar and leaving.
Saft yelled at the man as he left demanding to know how he could leave his daughter like this. Only for Az to tell her to be quiet and walk to the other side of the cell before a guard came in to watch them. Az looking at the guard, and called his name. But he refused to look at her.
Later Az's father came back with food for both the prisoners (Which was slid under the door) and for the guard. He also slipped the guard a flask of whisky to see him though the night since it always gets cold in the cells. He then left again without saying a word to the dragons.
But not long after dinner the guard fell asleep. Az wasn't the least but surprised and easily opened the cell door. Her father had slipped Az the key. And the Guard's whisky had been drugged.
Az led Saft away from the cells and out a window. It was a tricky climb but they made it to the roof. Where Saft transformed into a dragon, this gave away the fact they had escaped but they had decided that the speed of flight was better than stealth. Az climbed into Saft's back and tried to fly away before the hunters could mobilise and shoot them down.
They almost made it.
Several archers were lucky and their arrows cut Saft's wing. The white dragon was forced to into a rough landing, Az was thrown from her back and vanished into some bushes. Saft, always more comfortable in as a human changed forms to face the hunters. Thankfully they hadn't had time to grab all their weapons and was forced to fight unarmed.
Moments later Az came around and for the first time in her life willingly turned into a dragon. She whipped her tail at the hunters knocking them off their feet and burned the ground between them to buy them some time before urging Saft onto her back as she ran, her dragon form being much faster than any of the hunters horses even if they had been willing to run though the fire she had started.
All that was left was for them to return to Dragonsbayne. Although Az has no idea what lays ahead of her now...
Moral Standing: Although Az wants to be a hero she's been going about it the wrong way and starts off technically as a Lawful Evil. Having been betrayed by the Dragon Hunters and risen to hate Dragons she's doesn't know what side she should chose and is more of a Lawful Neutral now.
Dreams: All Az has ever wanted to do was protect people. Her dream would be a world where all the people she cared about would be safe.
Fears: Az is scared of her own dragon heritage, she believes that if she loses control of her temper she'll lash out and hurt someone, This is why she's hesitant to use her fire breath and almost never uses her dragon form.
It's also why she keeps the silver collar which gives her, her human form when it would probably be safer to discard it.
Extra: Az also likes pretty things and romance novels but she tends to hide this and more “Girly” things because the other hunters mocked her for them.
